Brief Auction Report and online goodies

I went to tuesdays auction (the weekly one where you can only see the horses from a catwalk above-sketchy) because someone posted 4 horses for $50 each. One 7 year old adorable, nice looking chestnut gelding, one poorly conformed 4 year old mare, and 2 year-1.5 year old stud colts. Nothing else said. I emailed twice because the gelding was exactly what the KB looks for- stocky, tall and fat. Never got a reply and the entire ad was taken down at once. *sigh* People, kill buyers are absolutely on craigslist and they will pick up your horses!

So I went tuesday on the off chance they'd try to flip them at the sale the next day- they didn't.

1. 14.2 hand bay male mule, tall socks, no one spoke. Run through. $37.50 to FA- KB
2. 14.3 hh bay mule, run through. $37.50 FA-KB
3. Dark bay mare (I think), 14 hh, stocky, short legged, very nervous, ragged mane. Wild eyed. No one spoke. NTR $400 to TD (kb?)-
4. Bay with blaze, a little over 14 hh, fat, nervous and neighing. NRT. $365 TD (kb?)
5. Black/possible bay, star, 14.2, stocky, slightly less nervous. NRT $275 TD (kb?)

Went high for horses that no one said anything about. Not age, not breed, not even sex! Same guy/buisness got the 3 horses.

online beauties...

1.
Breed: Quarter Horse Sex: Filly
Color: Blue Roan Birth Date: May 13, 2012
Height: 13.0 hh Weight: 0.0 lbs
Registry: AQHA Reg. #: N/A
Temperament: 3 / 10
Price:$100
Additional Comments:
This filly is the cream of the crop. She is coming 2 this spring. She comes with an AQHA registration application to register her. She is gentle and has had some halter training done, but I would not consider her halter broke.

Okay, maybe not as far along training wise as she could be and they should have registered her themselves, but that's reasonable for the price.... So I thought, until...

I saw the picture. Good lord! Feed that thing! If that's the creme dela creme I'd hate to see their culls..That is just one sad looking baby. Those pasterns... that shoulder and what's going on with that rump?

2. horse for sale $800 - $800
for sale two half year black stud horse he is half QH & tenn walking horse asking $800 are obo can text pics of horse

Umm, exactly why is your randomly mixed grade horse, who will have an awful gait if any (seriously, totally different movement and conformation ideals) with no picture A. still a stud? B. Worth $800?  Take a look at the market, sheesh.

3. 6 yr Old Bay Gelding Trail Pony - $900

Meet Lightning! He's a 6 year old 55 inch bay gelding that we've put through our Kid program for several months! He's had 60 days retraining by my 3rd and 4th year student riders. He's learning his natural horsemanship cues more every dayl! Has a great yield to his hindquarters, his forequarters, & is picking up his back up very well! This slow & steady guy doesn't care much for getting in a hurry. Low headed & quiet. Makes a great lead line pony for young novice riders, & the more advanced kids can guide him easily! Easy to catch and handle.  Serious inquiries only. MUST go to a good home with knowledgeable horse folks! This little guy learns more every day & we have began his education as a play day pony. The price will continue to go up the longer we keep him! Super easy keeper, doesn't require shoes, and loads like a champ, point and cluck! $900 firm. Lightnin will fit in with any establishment looking to add a dependable smaller trail pony to their riding stock.

Okay, sounds like a nice enough pony, I'd rather buy him than the grade stud above, but why, why, why would you choose these pictures as a selling point?

Does that make the pony look willing to you? Because it looks pissed to me and shows off poor conformation. The first picture.... you don't let your kids program ride through stuff like that do you?! Good riding gear too... proper boots and helmets.... oh wait... never mind.

4. 7 year old QH Bay Mare: Trade or sell - $500
Lilly is a beautiful bay that I had every intention of breaking for my gran-daughter. She stands about 14.2 and is full of spunk. We didn't intend to cut her tail that short but the bob-look becomes her.... She can be a little bossy at feeding time but not much after that. I have been on her with no problems and that's good for a mare that has not been ridden in 5 years. We just bred her with a beautiful QH Paint and if it took she should foal between 12/10/2013 and Christmas of 2013. Its like getting 2 for the price of one or "double trouble" LOL.... Only serious callers or texts plz... If i get more time we will work on lifting our feet for the farrier but she stands good for grooming, loads, really good at ground work, will have current coggins before she leaves. Will sell her or trade for a bomb proof horse for my gran-daughter. ( Not a horse over 15 years of age plz)  Tks for looking and god bless

Oh my lordy, yeah, having a tail cut off to the actual flesh is not becoming. Ever. Now she can't swat flies when it gets warm- hooray!  Have fun buying shit tons of fly spray sucker! What is so special about this mare that you felt the need to breed her? Hmm? It's sure not her conformation or looks, show record. bloodlines, size, temperament (spunky and not fit for youth) or athleticism/movement. A mare in foal (to an unspectacular stallion) is never a two for one bonus. It's a two for one eating machine. Why would you breed her if you're going to sell her?! Do you have a clue how much more difficult selling her will be? Gah.

5. Ad Type: At Stud Name: Peppys San Winrock Breed: Paint  Gender: Stallion Color: Black
Height:15.10 hands  Temperament: 2 (1 - calm; 10 - spirited) Age: 8 yrs 11 mths Registered: Yes  Price: $ 300

I have raised Ringo from a foal and his temperment is so good.He has passed it on to his foals that I have bred. He is homozyous for the tobiano gene. You may view his foals on my web site. I have never shown him but I feel he is a good alround horse.
If your looking for a stallion to throw color to breed your mare to for the trail and general riding he will be great. NO shoes on the mare and we do charge mare care and I hand breed him but no shipped semen at this time. A current coggins dated within six months of breeding. The mare must be easy to handle and be in good health

Okay, I'm glad you think he's an all around good horse, but paint him chestnut and you've got what? A (possibly broke) trail stud who doesn't want to attack everything in sight? How special! And you can breed to him to make a decent all around trail horse? Wow! We're sure in a shortage of those, might run out any day now.......

Sheesh, after all the money spent raising and training the foal, you'd be better off just buying a horse. Why breed when you can get horses like these at an affordable price?

5. Ad  type: for Sale Status: Available Name: Fame's Sweet Serendipity
Breed: Saddlebred Gender: Mare Color: Palomino Height: 15.10 hands
Temperament: 5 (1 - calm; 10 - spirited) Age: 4 yrs Registered: Yes  Price: $ 2,000

Due to the death of our stallion we are selling our ASB stock. This coming 4 yr old filly is absolutely gorgeous and has a sweet and willing disposition. Only worked on the ground and had a saddle on, not ridden. A bargain now before further training.

Sheesh, that is a nice horse at  a great price. Look at those moves!

6. Inviting Gold Spark Color: Palomino Breed: Quarter Horse Sex: Gelding Birth Date: Feb 28, 2002 Height: 16.0 hh   Registry: AQHA    Reg. #: 1284424 Temperament: 5 / 10 Price: $3,000

he is a beautiful and muscular built gelding he is a finished riding horse that knows his leg ques he is also registered with the Palomino horse breeders of America and the AQHA If you want a nice horse come get him. I reckon it is hard to see on the picture of his papers but he is HYPP-N/N.

Now that's a nice looking boy! Pasterns might be a little upright and his confo isn't perfect, but he's a gelding. Previous ad said he was a breeding stallion before they got him. Folks, if they're gelding horses like him, you should geld your fugs. That head is beautiful, he's finished AND he's N/N.

Just one question...

Why the hell would you go and look at a $3600 horse when you have a strict budget of $2000? More importantly, why would you not ask if the price was negotiable before seeing the horse?
*ARG*

This weekend I was showing my dressage prospect, who I have put months of training into getting him well behaved, balanced, supple and so on. He's really come a long way. I had an interested call who I approved to come out (I veto a lot of people right off the bat) who was looking for a dressage horse and friend for her teenage daughter.  This is perfect because my guy does trails, loves attention and people, bonds like glue, is basically bombproof, and could kick butt in dressage with just a little more training. In the ad I say that he has not been shown and is a prospect, he's been being schooled in English but needs an actual dressage trainer/rider to finish him out before showing him.
I bathed his socks the day before, cleaned up the pasture and round pen, straightened the tack room and of course, groomed him until he almost shined (he's in his winter coat) as well as grooming all of the other horses.
When they came the mother told me she knew next to nothing about horses and didn't even know what a draft horse was. (Budweiser horses) So I was explaining things and showing her stuff and letting her daughter get to know him before riding. He ate up the attention and she loved him. I rode him, showed his cues and how he mainly works off of seat and leg cues and is very light. The daughter asked a lot of good questions and then she rode. He was good, except for when she got nervous and he started tossing his head a little bit until she took a deep breath. He was listening for her leg cues so intently that he walked face first into the arena panels. *clang!* It was kind of hilarious since it wasn't hard. She loved him and he really seemed to like her a lot. Everything was going great, so I got back on and rode him a second time because she wanted to see a few things.
Daughter decided she really wanted him and he was perfect.
And that's when it all starts going to hell.
The mother told me she had originally set a $2000 limit on price and asked what my lowest price would be. I said I was fairly firm but slightly negotiable because I'd really liked her daughter and thought they'd be a good match. She asked if I would consider a payment plan, half now and half in a few weeks. I said I'd have to think about it because the way she phrased it made it seem like she wanted to take the horse right away, and I'm not okay with the horse leaving without the full price being paid. Too much shit can happen.
We called her back later and said I'd do it if he stayed on our property and her daughter could visit and I'd give her free lessons/tips on working with him until he left. She was confused and asked if I'd agreed to take the $2000. Uh no. Would I take $2500? No.

Then we got the texts. The texts saying how she didn't understand why I was asking so much and how she'd shown the ad and admittedly poor video, to her horse contacts and they agreed and thought I was being a little unreasonable.  He didn't have show experience after all or professional training (even though he had in western before me and I've put 5-6 months on him) and that's what usually drove a price up. She couldn't understand it and asked me why I thought he was worth my asking price.
Well this just pissed me off. He was perfect and they'd adored him when they were out. Everything had been disclosed in the ad, which they'd seen before making the decision to come out. I HATE when people try to lowball me. If you say, we love them but just can't afford that financially, I'll work with you happily. You try to tell me my horse isn't worth jack, and I just don't want to sell you my horse. At all. I want to know they're going to the perfect home.
I was dumbfounded, hadn't she just told me hours before that she knew next to nothing about horses?! She didn't even know what a draft horse was- and he was advertised as a draft cross!  Since I have a temper when it comes to dealing with humans I replied with a 2-3 page breakdown of exactly why he was worth that and had she seen the prices draft crosses go for in other areas?! He has great conformation and is stocky so he can carry a bigger rider. He's light and fluid and you can ride him bareback, in a halter, at night after not working him for two weeks. Jump on from the ground and go. He's also a great trail horse and not at all spooky. I told her there was a lot more to a horse than just a ribbon or two. His biggest problem is that he can sometimes get a little too excited walking back to the barn but we've been working on doing so with a loose rein and occasionally he doesn't want to stand still when being ridden in his pasture. He's great in the arena which is a work space.

This was him when I got him.
And this is him now

My cape flapping about in our fantasy  themed shoot didn't even make him bat an eye.

I have put many serious hours into retraining him and now all he needs is a little bit of time with a dressage trainer or experienced rider. Because I normally ride Western and I've taught him all I can, even while I've been reading up on dressage books.
I still haven't heard back from the person. But the hell would you go and look at a horse that's $1600 out of your price range when you knew you couldn't afford it!? It's rude and a waste of everyone's time and your child's emotions. This is why I hate selling horses. I like stopping them from going to slaughter, I like training them, I like helping them get a second chance, but I HATE dealing with the people.

Oh CL, when will you stop being a source of fodder?

1. Solid White Quarter Horse For Sale/Looking for pony - $150 We have a solid white quarter horse mare, that just turned 2 in November. Gorgeous girl. Lounges like a dream, loads, ties, stays still for farrier, has had a saddle and bridle on. She is not completely broke yet. Finish her how you want her. Her name is Sophie. Current nefative coggins. Call for anymore information. $150.
Also looking for a pony or minature for a little girl. Needs to be kid broke and safe. She is only three.
Call (removed) for any information or to call about the pony.
Okay, not bad, hasn't been ridden yet thankfully.  Nothing too awful here, right? Well, besides the image of the horse just lounging around, perhaps sipping a martini....
WRONG
Holy sickle hocks batman! That has got to be one of the funkiest back leg sets I've ever seen.  Add in the nest, long slightly roached looking back, weak hind end, sunburned looking face and piggy expression and I just want to know what's gorgeous here? I'm sure she has a good personality, err, disposition but dang. How long before she's lame? God willing she's never used as a broodmare- please please please nooo! At least she's not post legged?

2. Who in Arkansas has McCurdy Horses - $2 (Arkansas)
I think I might would like to have one of the McCurdy Plantain hores Just to see what I can do with it.

You know you're in Arkansas when..... I'm sorry, this one just cracks me up. I just wanna see what I can do with one of them thur hores. *wink wink*
I bet you could ride it, since you know, they're a horse. Meant for covering lots of ground easily and smoothly.

3.4 year old mare green broke she had been rode
But it has been awhile she will defiantly need a
Tune up. Stands to have feet done no bite, buck
Or kick. She is 13 hands 200.00 OBO
Holy hell, check out that crest!

Now description wise, this doesn't sound like a bad little horse. But good lord, put her on a dry lot before she founders! I thought our little paso mare is on the cresty/chubby side (she's on a constant diet to keep her a healthy weight) but paso's are often cresty- this is a QH. Diet time pronto! Do all the exercise!  I hope someone gets her, slims her down before she founders and makes a nice little riding pony out of her. She's got a cute expression.

4. Price reduced! He is an exceptionally sweet, VERY gentle Paint colt & would make a great pal for a child. Just loves being groomed & fussed over. Would trade for horse hay.
Breed: Miniature Gender: Stallion Color: Pinto Height: 7.10 hands  Age: 1 yr Registered: Yes Price: $ 295

No one is going to convince me that that isn't a tiny llama. Possibly donkey. Or that it's all horse. That back is just...  wtf? For $300 I can get a real horse or a super cute mini... Poor thing. Yikes.

5.Stuart Little has not had a lot of handling and is wary of people. He needs an experienced trainer and handler.  Adoption contract and farm check required. Details are on our website. See more horses and ponies available for adoption at Give Me A Chance Equine Rescue at our website.
Breed: Other Gender: Stallion Color: Bay Height: 13.30 hands Temperament: 5  Age: 7 yrs 9 mths
Registered: No Price: $ 100

Now I'm going to start by saying that this is an ADORABLE little horse. I just love his look. I think they've done a good job getting him a healthy weight. But they've had him for something like a year, I've been keeping watch on the ad, and he's still a stallion! What kind of rescue adopts out a grade, unbroke, untrusting stallion?! If you're never training them or gelding them you're really just feeding them. *sigh* I was going to try and volunteer my time there if I had any, but when I say they were adopting out stallions and almost all of their horses were untrained or not tested for riding... it sends up alarms.

6.  blue eyed stallion.  HE HAS NOT BEEN TRAINED TO RIDE BUT HE STANS FOR FARRIER AND WILL EAT OUT OF YOUR HAND,WE HATE TO SELL HIM BUT WE HAVE TO MANY BABIES ON THE GROUND HE HAS THREE THIS YEAR,  I WILL SELL HIM FOR $250 HE JUST PASTURE BREEDS AND CONTROLS HIS MARES THANKS  not reg.
Other ad
this welsh stud has only pasture services, but hes good at it , he has 4paint fillies and a chocolate shetland, his mother was a mo-foxtrotter,he is 5yrs old --searvices $100 or will sell for $250 need to replace him ..and hay is short.50in tall

Okay, are you fucking kidding me?! All your crappy grade, mutt stallion does is pasture breed and you're selling him because hay is short- and you want to buy another stallion? So you can make more grade babies from his grade babies? It hurts. Seriously. God I hate people. QUIT BREEDING CRAP.No one, NO ONE wants those foals. Just stop. Pleasseeee

7. Awsome horse Very gentle - $850
Mare standing at 13.2 and 11 yrs old. Once used as a therapy horse. Can be rode, western and English, jumps from18-24 inches, trail riding, parades or even just bareback and a halter, This horse has done it all. Not spooky and very gentlle. Used to all sorts of small animals under foot. Can just call to catch, and gets along well with other horses. Loads even in small trailers. An easy keeper who has had , all shots done, plus coggins, wormed, feet done, and teeth floated. A great little play day or event pony, to a good home only.

Now this isn't the prettiest horse I've ever seen or a very good picture, but my gosh does she sound like a nice little mare! This is a kids dream- or it would be if people weren't so caught up on looks and color. I recommended her to someone who asked me to keep an eye out for a horse for her and her daughter- both beginners. Daughter wanted to start English and maybe jumping. I recommended a few more and they were clearly most interested in the paints. *sigh* This horse sounds like a steal, has had owners who clearly care enough to take good care of her, and I really hope some little kid snatches her right up and spends lots of hours grooming her to a shine and feeding her carrots. Looks aren't everything.

Okay the second picture is just adorable- seriously, someone snatch her up!

8. I have several Miniture horses for sale at Winter prices. Over 50 females, all running with a 26 inch stud. The Horse size range between 26 inches to 35 inches, all different colors. These make wonderful pets, a few people who have bought from me keep theirs in the house. All horses are registered, have a clean coggins, and come with a new halter. Some horses are 150 some are 250, come spring they will go up after the babies have arrived. These are great friendly horses and can be shown at miniature shows as well as compete in obstacles.  Daylight hours are best, so you can see the horses.

I'm glad they're registered but why so many, why are they all with a stud! And why do you sell them to people who think keeping them in the house is a good idea?!

9. BIG REWARD FOR STOLEN TACK AND OTHER BARN ITEMS!!!!
ATTENTION - ATTENTION - ATTENTION!!!
MY BARN WAS BROKEN INTO AND THE FOLLOWING ITEMS WERE TAKEN:
1. REFURBISHED BILLY DON HOGG 14.5" CALF ROPING SADDLE (HAS A LONGHORN BRAND NAME ON IT) SEE PICTURES FOR DESCRIPTION.
2. 42" RED BARN/SHOP FAN MADE BY VENTAMATIC ALSO KNOWN AS A "MAX AIR" FAN. BRAND NEW!!!!
3. AN ASSORTMENT OF CUSTOM BITS WITH CUSTOM HEADSTALLS AND TIEDOWNS. I HAVE INCLUDED PICTURES OF SOME OF THE BITS!!!!

Now I'm sad they got their stuff stolen (that's a shitty situation) and I really hope they get it all back- well, all except the bits. For their horses sake I hope those stay missing...

My entirely brief (nonexistent) show career....

I trail ride and I retrain horses. I've been a trail guide (obviously) and I've worked at several barns, some local, one show. I briefly joined 4H in my youth- and promptly quit after two meetings. I don't show, I guess I've just never gotten that bug or maybe I've just always never cared for the shit that goes on backstage.
I admit, my brief time in 4H pretty much completely drove away any desire. So here's  my story.

I was an awkward home schooled kid at the time who wanted some socialization. I've had horses since I was four (my parent's were the ones who thought it would be a good idea to get their toddler a weanling colt so they could grow up together.
My first pony Flame- Also I'm a natural blonde. Yikes.

When they knew nothing about training a horse or teaching a kid to ride. Genius right? More on that later.) and when I was nine I got bucked off my sisters horse and broke/fractured my lower spine. It chipped but stayed in apparently so I still don't know what's up with that but apparently if I get tossed off in just the wrong way again it can come out. Eek.
Since that injury I developed a love for gaited horses because a regular trot hurt my back. So I finally that decided I'd outgrown my lazy confidence builder TWH and I wanted to show. So I bought an ex show TWH. He cost either $18,000 or $36,000 as a yearling. I can't remember. Great bloodlines, sweet disposition, big and pretty. I bought him for $1,800 (cheap at the time). Just one problem- he'd been shown big lick or padded. They'd ruined his feet. They claimed he was too laid back to be any good in that ring. He'd been gelded three months prior to my purchasing him. That was my introduction to the joys of the TWH world. Once we'd finally worked out a lot of his feet issues, I finally got to take him to a 4H meeting.

I showed up thinking how awesome it was going to be, after all I had a fancy smancy horse with a real show record. I rode in an immediately realized that my horse was much bigger than everyone else and very different. Everyone else was on Quarter horses or POA's and giving us a major "WTF" look. When they asked for a trot and my horse started gaited- and he wasn't even doing the stupid big lick, he was doing a running walk, the entire arena started laughing. Walkers weren't common in that area yet and certainly weren't shown. Also the English saddle didn't exactly fit the theme. I was embarrassed and all my excitement had died. I was told that people just didn't show gaited horses and I should look into getting myself a nice Quarter horse.
After the farrier bills and constant soakings got too much for me to handle (he was such a gentleman about it too) I had to sell him. I sold him to a farrier and his wife who drove across the country to have him become their new baby and just live out his life eating treats, getting looked after and maybe the occasional light ride.
After I decided I'd just deal with it and buy my very first QH.

He was a barrel horse with Colonel Freckles breeding and he was way, way too much horse for me but by gosh, he had the bloodlines the other kids wanted and supported. He started bucking and bolting immediately after I got him- probably my fault and like I said, too much horse for me. This was actually the horse who made me decide showing wasn't worth all the pressure and bullshit- well that and seeing what the TWH had gone through. Not only that but it made me so frustrated that I felt I'd never find the "Right" horse for me and after I sold him I decided I wouldn't get another horse.

Worst time of my life- and I worked at a barn during that time where I could ride their Arabians. After some very serious depression I finally bought the horse who I love and still have, and who would be laughed out of any show ring in existence. You'll get his sad story later, promise.

Sammy a little while after I got him: I thought he was looking *good* here by comparison.

Sam this summer: Sam absolutely loves kids and wouldn't let anyone else near her.
